Whimsical trends: Cosmic prints

This has a high potential to be my next blog header image!

You might notice cosmic/galactic/universal prints have seen a great surge these past two seasons, all thanks to designers like Christopher Kane who pretty much takes the responsibility in propelling beautiful galactic prints on the runway. I honestly do not know if he stole those gorgeous universe prints from NASA's archive of space images. Ha!

I for one am a big fan of prints, especially the (vaguely) painterly ones. When I saw Mr Kane's famed cosmic collection both for men and women some time last season, my childhood ambition to be an astronomer was suddenly re-triggered and was very tempted to grab a hold of one of the pieces. Oki-ni had a great selection of men's t-shirts, however the exorbitant (pun intended) price was a HUGE let down.

This is a unisex resort 2011 collection from Christopher Kane (kidding haha)

Come spring summer sales I happily noted that the t-shirts are sold half price at SSense.com, a Canadian-based e-boutique. Never mind that it's a women's t-shirt (isn't that old news?), the thought of the lower cost compared to Oki-ni made me joyous already.

Staring all day long at the mesmerizing vivid print...

The fabric is breezy, semi-sheer modal. The tag says 'dry cleaning only'. This shirt better be worth the dry cleaning fees which I only allocate to garments that I love. This is garment number thirty four.

No wonder people say e-window shopping is addictive. For those who have a weak will power like me can easily succumb to the temptations of sales. Who's to be blamed? (okay stop it I know I can see fingers pointing at me now). But the journey to the galaxy did not end here. I figured the more cosmic themes in an outfit the better...

The cosmic theme resonates perfectly in the Kipling x Peter Pilotto SS2011 collaboration. This Milky Way bag boasts a roomy space where I can stuff all my garbage when I'm in a hurry. The bag is also on a heavy discount at Kiplings outlet in One Utama.

We love matchy matchy hues...

Aren't you amazed by Lady Gaga's equally famous galactic-inspired Born This Way video?

Or Katy Perry's alleged copycat E.T video...

Well, thumbs up for Ssense for having a fairly good range of sizes. The negative part was the extortionate fixed postage fee! Imagine paying 50USD for such a light item. It was a rather foolish/wise decision to purchase it anyway, as the cost that I saved post discount is more beneficial than the shipping fee. (yes I hired an accountant to calculate that 'value-for-money shopping' for me).

A 90's song that would be apt for all things cosmic is of course 'Intergalactic' by Beastie Boys...

Hopefully it's not too late to wish Happy Ramadan al-Mubarak for Muslims out there!

Not a Lanvin virgin anymoarr

Photobucket

It was long time ago since I dreamt about owning a piece of clothing/accessories from this celebrated fashion house (which is quite evident if you look at the stale 'covetable yet impossible' section at the far down right corner of this page). But today I am officially not a Lanvin virgin anymoarr (please pronounce 'anymore' like Lady Gaga in Alejandro).  I feel so sinful o Lord please forgive me!

I might be sounding over dramatic and might even commit a blasphemy for such  a statement. But such is the typical reaction whenever I fail to contain my excitement regarding this new pair of Lanvin clogs that I recently acquired from Lanvin Hilton Singapore branch.

The shape, texture and color of these shoes is the particular reason I chose to purchase them, out of several shoe models which are rather classic and easily forgotten. (Well, not to mention about the blessing of a hefty discount - 60% off retail price! The bargain hunter in me was screaming when I saw the price tag)

The thought of it might insinuate a perverted taste of a shoe fanatic but it felt so good upon caressing the leather upper of the clogs. The calfskin is enveloped in the beautiful shiny metallic green finish that one could easily mistake as a fly's back, or rather a dragon fly...

The sole is soft and it is padded with a sturdy plastic-like material which is also great for shoe fetishists comme moi who would not like their soles getting scratched nor damaged. Comfort-wise the shoes are a winner because nothing could beat a pleasurable feeling when wearing a pair of leather clogs. It seems like there are endless possibilities when it comes to pairing these shoes with other outfits and apparently menswear is slowly picking up the clog trend which has been quite popular the past season in ladies' world...

Being outside but homey, with Gaga in hand

Photobucket
Last Saturday was my first time eating out at this great looking restaurant The Apartment. Nested at the end of Suria KLCC building, this restaurant faces KLCC park which offers a breathtaking view of the Golden Triangle's skyline.

The theme of the food is fusion, I think (okay I'm the worst food critic so spare some credit will ya)
What I ate (sans fancy name of the dishes, because I simply forgot, bien sur!):
1) pasta with strands of duck meat
2) kerabu-like dish (with again, strands of duck meat)
3) tapas - which comes as a slice of nearly-cooked beef. The funny story is this was the first time I ate tapas (I always imagined they are served with crunchy nachos) . Turns out that 'tapas' is actually a light snack/ an appetizer. D'oh!

It was so good to see these familiar faces again. We ate and chat all night long! Luckily there was not so much patron that night, even though it was Saturday night, so that we could comfortable talked about personal things and not worry about people eavesdropping or whatnot (paranoid me!)

I especially like how the decor of The Apartment resembles, well, an apartment. It felt so cosy relaxing on the sofa after our meal.

Before seeing Helmi and Safwan I did a little book shopping. What I had in my mind- no medical books please! So this is what I bought...

Lady Gaga - Behind The Fame

Now, now, I know she is just a pop idol but the story behind her success is so inspiring! She started small and humble as a burlesque dancer but with a big dream. After years of rejection, she finally had the opportunity to shine with great numbers which obviously dominates the world's dance/pop scene.

What I wore that night (excuse the grainy photos) - Margiela shirt with ?mohair detail, Topman slacks, vintage Parisian lace-ups and vintage Russian bag/clutch. Yes, handbag for guys please.

Have a great weekend!

And lesson to self, tapas does not equate nachos!
