Hi. I'm back! (And I just came back from Bangkok)

Four months since I've penned down something in Dunia Fashyon. FOUR MONTHS! What was I thinking? The truth is, it takes much more than stringing sentences together to produce an appealing blog. And I feel that the energy required for maintaining DF has taken its toll on me.
Or maybe I'm just the biggest procrastinator in the world - whenever there's an urge to post something for the blog, that will be exactly the time where an evil voice speaks to me, pulling me away from my keyboard.

In a paltry attempt to revive Dunia Fashyon (and hopefully my online presence), I present to you my recent travel to Bangkok, Thailand. And for the time being, I'll keep it short and simple for anyone who are still following DF (thanks so much for the supportive comments from my previous post - never did I know that I have 'real' readers all this while).

Black and Yohji Yamamoto

Those who have been following Dunia Fashyon are well aware that I prefer colour and pattern over dreary hues in my outfits. But sometimes I just feel like wearing predominantly black clothes. This stands at the opposite spectrum of my philosophy - on the contrary, black is actually an absence of colour. But undeniably black has the ability to give this weird feeling of empowerment - all of the sudden you look slimmer, slicker, more elegant.

A relaxedly tailored linen blazer, the unconventional trousers silhouette, the white sneakers - things that seem fresh in my outfit principles. I've been reading a book about Yohji Yamamoto which contains tonnes of pictures of his earlier creations (can't wait to share the images!). His convictions of using less color perhaps make his work of art stand out more. Somehow wearing this drop-crotch pants remind me of his peculiar cuts. Or perhaps Rei Kawakubo's? - at some point Yohji did have a professional relationship with Rei, so it;s difficult to say who influenced who in this case...

Marni-fied

The recent Marni at H&M acquisition has left a huge dent in my bank account but I still have few other significant purchases to be done (which is in some way related to both fashion and my current profession, I promise). Unfortunately some of the items that I saw in person were really a let down compared to what I perceived from the look book - the flimsy leather tote with saggy base immediately threw me off, the awkwardly-constructed striped short-sleeved cashmere does not really work with my height, and the gaudy printed shirts is a tad too much EVEN for me. However few of the items DID catch my attention namely the bright canary yellow shirt and a midnight blue shirt with subtle prints. I'm quite taken aback by the fact that the material used is 100% cotton as I would suspect some degree of artificial fabric to disgustingly cheapen the pieces (polyester, for example).

Apart from the shirts I also had an staggering interest in the accessories section (if you guessed that I purchased the plastic jewelries you're quite wrong - wearing necklaces and statement bangles is just not up my alley, even though I've tried it once). On the other hand I was more attracted to the sandals (yup, I'm that pathetic, being attracted to things instead of human beings). The winning combo that immediately made me like the sandals very much is the cut-out details AND they are in real leather, soles included. Plus, the clear green plastic as the shoe box, complete with a shoe bag has left my appreciating the footwear ever more. 

 

 Naturally, looking back at the pieces from this collection has ignited a styling spark in me and here we go... 

Prada foam shoes SS11

I am definitely stating the obvious over the fact that everybody in the blogosphere is talking about how Prada Spring/Summer 2011 is the most memorable collection for both menswear and womenswear this season - let it be the bold kaleidoscopic colours e.g. in the dresses, knitwear, the bright blue and pink fur stoles, psychedelic patterns (gliding monkeys and bananas - how kookier can Miuccia Prada be?), and most important of all, the footwear, which was among the other factors that stole every one's attention...
