Hometown glory

And I thought I could not survive the Obstetrics and Gynecology rotation! The final few days were rather a toughie when one of the specialists was contemplating to extend my training period at that department,  saying that I was inadequate (huwattt?), but gratefully I passed. (well I'd say she was the ONLY one who was unsatisfied with my performance during the four-month duration I was there. Ironically everybody else thought the other way round though).

Being in that department was definitely an experience! No other departments has this much drama/chaotic moments compared to OBGYN. Still remember my hair stunt that rattled everyone's feathers? Thankfully I still have another image to keep the memorable experience alive.

And this photo was taken a day before my specialist found out that I had such 'stupid' haircut and subsequently ordered me to 'repair' it immediately....

I am wearing New Yorker hombre-effect cardigan, Giordano striped tee, H&M acid wash jeans, Jil Sander shoes and Topshop pleated leather clutch

P.S: The purpose of choosing Adele's Hometown Glory as a title for this post is partly because I feel at home in the slouchy cardigan and of course the 'glory' part is the fauxhawk...

Bring the baggy!

My affection towards baggy and roomy pants grows every time I see a great image portraying the above-mentioned article of clothing . I just love when the fabric does the swish swash effect when the person is in motion.

Case in point -these sick voluminous pants. Designer unknown. Photo credit: The Fashionisto

Over the years we all have been preached about that certain Hedi Slimane silhouette looks 'smarter' or more polished, but on the contrary I always believe that I'd wear baggier pants on occasions that requires me to dress up. And I have been having a little bit of fun with clothes too lately.  Tried to dress up when I went to watch the hugely popular Broadway musical Maria with the original casts all the way from New York.

Photobucket

For the outfit at the show I was inspired, or rather attempted to vaguely imitate Ann Demeulemeester / Yohji Yamamoto . Yet again I wore those Thai fisherman linen pants with the ZARA blazer teamed up with my new wide brimmed hat from Topman. The hat I think brings a lot of character to any outfit. The funny thing is no one is allowed to wear hats in the theatre hall (so that we don't block somebody else's view). So the hat was purely just for show that night...

A good Sunday to everybody who can afford to have weekend offs!

It's that time again...

... for a new rotation. This time it is my turn to intern at the Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G) department. It is so nerve-wrecking and exhilarating at the same time. I've heard so many dreadful stories about how the stressful working in the department is (for example the specialists and medical officers are so paranoid with the medico-legal issues so prevalent amongst pregnant/ post natal ladies). I believe that O&G poses different challenges and obstacles compared to medical department.

I will be entering a gruelling 2-week period acquiring obstetrics skills such as conducting deliveries, doing episiotomy and its repair. So I'll be working my a$$ off from 7am to 11pm for fourteen days.

Whatever it is I hope my stint there as as smooth as my previous internships (although I particularly dread how easy an intern could get extended there just because some seemingly minor mistakes).

Wish me a goooood luck as I probably need it most!

Goodbye orthopedics, hello medical department!

Yesterday I officially completed my orthopedics posting. Am really glad to finish but totally sad leaving this seemingly not hectic department. More importantly I'll be having one of the toughest moments in internship in medical department - where patients actually are in need of speedy intervention... people actually die on a daily basis here!
Photobucket

So unnerving, I know. I'm not sure how I will cope with the stress but let's pray hard I'll be able to sail through it smoothly.
Photobucket

Until next week (because I'd probably be to beat up to post anything as I'll be in the gruelling 'tagging' period this week).

Stylistically I'm very happy to pull out this baggy pair of Levi's from my closet. I still remember why I bought it in the first place almost 8 years ago - because of the back pocket outline which is transferred at the front pockets. And wearing baggy jeans is soo much more comfortable than those figure-hugging skinny pants may I add!

Reminiscing and regretting

One of my favorite pastime nowadays is to sit back and reminisce about the good times I had during my student years. Although it was merely 8 months ago when I was slacking off at my friends' expense playing Guitar Hero on an almost a daily basis, spending away my scholarship allowance shopping at the thrift stores or the nearby newly-built Torgoviy Tsentr, updating Dunia Fashyon regularly (ahem) and of course to smoothly sail the final exams, I feel like those last few months are the best moments that I could cherish in my life- it was then when I had plenty of time at my disposal and I could finally get comfortable with the seemingly outlandish Russian customs and really had a special bond with few great friends there.

Photobucket
Last summer I went to St Petersburg with my family of ten!

However now I feel like someone has pushed the 'fast forward' button and here I am, back home in Malaysia, having to bear one of the most stress-inducing profession there is. I know I should not live vicariously through some strangers' fashion blogs and wishfully think "Oh anything I'd give to have his career / live his life", but the thing is I really despise myself for letting my immature adolescent mind to make decision without prior consultation a few years back. I hate the fact that I'm so carefree and nonchalant when I signed the contract which basically says I'm bound to the government for a decade of my life. Now I realise  that I have to pay the price for not being indecisive of what I want to be when I grow up. I was lying to myself when I tried living through another person's life by convincing myself treating people is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Photobucket

Whatever the outcome is, I know I have to clean the mess that I personally made and try to at least pass the first two years of training. I always tell my mother and a few good friends 'I want to quit, I do not care about the patients at all!'. But you know what, I think I could do this job, no matter how half-assed or half-heartedly I carry out any procedure (like this one time when I was assisting a 6-hour long operation in the wee hours of the morning repairing some drunkard nobody's leg- I actually dozed off to sleep and got a shout by one of the two surgeons, saying "we're all tired, you're not the only one" - easy for him to say when he's not the one who's holding the retractor like a fool or worse, I was the one who had to watch them, the subpar fledgling surgeons trying to put back shattered bones back into pieces)...

Photobucket
I bought a couple of black and white photos from this guy. Loves his nonchalant look here - the loose-fitting blazer, the partially untucked shirt. How Yamamoto!

I wore a breezy ladies' Zara blazer, Sisley pastel pink tee, Cheap Monday jeans, Adidas Originals tennis/boat shoes, Guess watch, vintage bag

Turn over a new leaf

As a new chapter of life is turned, Dunia Fashyon grows a year older. Such an eventful year 2009 was both personally and blogging-wise. There's the graduation day after a 6-year long stint in Russia - which was simultaneously one of the most enjoyable and the saddest moments in my life so far. I was so happy that this was exactly the period when I discovered (excuse the cliche) passion for fashion and blogging, bonding with people and being finally comfortable with the initially 'hostile' environment (Russian culture and their extreme weather, for example). On a sadder note the last months was also difficult as I had to bear having to leave the most conducive atmosphere to dress up in multiple layers (hence the reason I discovered ways to tweak my style in the first place), missing the chance for fairly cheap traveling in Europe and of course bidding a dieu to a few good friends.

Photobucket

At the same time Dunia Fashyon saw a few incredible moments - being featured on other blogs, meeting a hugely successful blogger Dinie Rahman ,the shopping experience in Paris and Antwerp, the enjoyable DIY attempts  and of course having a steady amount of visitors, thanks to YOU ;)

Photobucket

Remember what I said early last year about my search of individual style? Truth be told I'm still in the search of the ultimate comfort zone in dressing. Some people call me a style chameleon, but I'm afraid what influences me in outfit selection is because of more like me falling trap in to the 'designer labels afficionados' territory (which partly reflects my insecurity) or more obviously, maybe I was and am trying too quickly to jump onto the trend band wagon.

Photobucket

Either way I think there's still much room to discover and more importantly there's a lot more to explore and experiment with menswear and occasionally womenswear, and at times  what we have to do is just sit back and soak in to the beauty of clothing...

Photobucket

Time is not a luxury for me anymore. As you all are aware already I have to work at crazy hours. Hence spending a big proportion of time on fashion blogging/surfing seems much much more difficult than the youthful enjoyable student days. I am feeling so old right now despite just finishing studies merely months ago.

Somehow words can't describe how time flies so quickly, the challenge of adapting a responsible adult life, (well, partial adult life as I'm currently living with my parents,) and the difficulty to try blending in with the new social atmosphere and hectic working schedule is beyond explanation.

Photobucket

Well at least I'm grateful to God that He has prolonged my life today and the chance to share with you my personal outfit shots is priceless. And last but not least I'm thanking you dear readers for making this blog what it is today. Please keep visiting and throw in some comments, I'd like to hear them and we could personally discuss on matters including the ones outside the fashion realm, just so you know.

To another self-indulgent year I say!

We live in a Mykro

Hello boys and girls! I've been quiet for a while (cue same ol' excuses...) but not without something interesting brewing in my rather ordinary life.
So last week I went to Singapore, and there I was thinking FINALLY it's time to visit the Lion City.

I like to think it as a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of hospital life - yes it was short- I only took 2 days off!' Apart from sightseeing and shopping of course it was the perfect opportunity to meet my blogger pal Dinie Rahman. And you might have noticed that he's also one of the contributors for Mykromag (the online magazine currently grabs fashion industry attention with its minimalistic content, features about and interviews with avant garde designers)

Photobucket

It's a shame that the meet-up was rather a brief one because we only could meet the last day I was in Singapore.(actually shame on me for responding to Dinie's facebook message last minute!) Ridhwan Sesapar also was supposed to come along but he had some military activities that day (hmmm...what do you guys do at military camps? sounds naughtily seductive!) ). Well it's okay that he couldn't come along because he drew me the perfectest caricature version of my bobble head. :)

Photobucket

It was a good time having a chat with Dinie - we talked about fashion, life in both of our countries, and about how underpaid I am working in Malaysia LOL! He also handed me a copy of Valentino- the Last Emperor (a documentary of which I think is really amazing with Mr Valentino leaving the designing scene after all these years of beautiful couture productions)

Photobucket

Alas, we were so time-constrained that the conversation had come to an abrupt ending. And my shyness upon meeting new people is definitely getting in the way of a better understanding of a person and more importantly to have fun! (I keep telling myself to stop holding back :(... Anyhow it was a memorable experience, and please come to KL you guys, I promise I'll take leaves specially for you!

A fashion-less life is sadly looming!

WARNING - this is a semi-sentimental post and lacks substantial amounts of pictures. Please read at your own discretion.

I know I've been countlessly making excuses when it comes to delays in updating Dunia Fashyon. Let me be straightforward this time - I put the blame of my almost one-month hiatus from writing on the energy-consuming job in the hospital. In fact, I was just getting used to the health care madness, the manic hierarchic system and the overwhelming flow of entirely alien information that's currently rummaging my tiny brain.

This is my first month as a houseman and look how it has taken it's toll on my life (i.e  life in general and of course, fashion-wise! ) . The only thing that I manage to do, coming back from work  is to change into sleepwear (and this sometimes I even miss, at times, being too exhausted I SLEEP in my work shirts and pants) and tuck into my bed straight away.

A boring cycle that is my present worklife -after getting up and  having a quick shower, there is little time left to THINK and to pick what clothes to wear any given day. I just grab any shirt that, luckily, my mother has generously ironed for me beforehand, and have a small bite for breakfast before starting the car to work.No time to think about fit, proportions, colours and such. I have all my ties pre tied for goodness sake! It's like dressing in the dark, only in my case I'm completely aware of what I'm putting on my body. The result is an appalling mismatch jumble of department-store altered pants, ties on dress shirts and  dusty unpolished vintage shoes. (the pictures of which I'm quite ashamed to show you guys, but when there's time I'll try to muster some courage to put on Dunia Fashyon anyway).

Photobucket

my very first day at work, yes we still use punch cards over this part of the world. I'm wearing literally seedy workwear- SEED shirt, Topman polyester tie, altered *Celio trousers, Benetton bag

When the devils came to town

Okay I don't want to pretend like I love or know anything about football at all, but come on, who doesn't love it when some European football club make its way to our humble country? Correct me if I'm wrong, it's not just some club, it's Manchester United mind you.

I was kind of daydreaming throughout the whole event. Obviously not the biggest football fan (or any sports for that matter). Well, I did pay attention when someone attempted to score a goal. But admittedly the match was somehow entertaining. Frankly I think everybody was expecting that the Malaysian National team will get crushed and played over like nothing by the Red Devils. Boy was I wrong. Our national team did give a fight and their retaliation shocked Man U's goalkeeper to his core (okay I'm exaggerating but I'm sure he was surprised, even the tiniest bit) 3 to 2? Congratulations I say!

And it was a bland day outfit-wise. Just wanted to try on these new H&M tee and American Apparel cardigan that I got from eBay. I felt so silly bidding for almost 15 quids just to get a hold of this used garment. A lesson for the future I guess.

On the way to the stadium, in the LRT

Yes as you can see I went there with my sisters and female cousins

Not a very clear view from my seat

The new H&M tee bought on sale. There are some random photos printed on it.

American Apparel cardigan (eBay), H&M tee, U2 pants, Adidas Originals boat shoes

P/S: And yeah they're having a rematch tonight, but the tickets are so overpriced. I believe that ProEvents ( the company responsible for the ticketing) is raking lots of cash from these two matches alone....

Back again, no pics from recent trip yet!

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since my latest post, 3 weeks exactly from the moment I left for Euro trip. It's been an amazing experience 'backpacking' in a few countries within over 2 weeks .

All is good right here. I can' t wait to update and show you guys the pics of the trip and the loot that I got for meself there! But the thing is somebody's lost my USB cable, so I can't upload them from my camera nor memory card reader.

So to compensate the lack of posts let me muse about my latest inspiration for outfits...

I saw this guy on dropsnap.jp, a Japanese street style site.

He looks really cool despite the rather basic items that he put on - a shirt, zip-up jacket, a sports blazer. And the bottom half is slightly quirkier with those rolled up baggy pants and cream boots.

Combining the 'normal' pieces together his personal take on style is really interesting and unique. How I wish people around me dressed like him, or at least had a thought before putting on that horrendous t-shirt :)

And for the second outfit..

The bottom looks exactly the same but the upper half absolutely gives his whole look a twist! Definitely a different look from the first getup image.

That's all, I really want to show you guys the pics I took in Europe :(
But before anything, have to find the cable first!

a BiG thank you!

Gosh, I should have done this a long time ago but being the procrastinator that I am a simple task like this seems forever to be completed. That being said I'd like to thank my pals Malchic and Safwan for their birthday presents. Sorry it took a long time to feature your gifts :)

click on the pics for details!

Malchic made me this wonderful scarf @ neck warmer. I'm truly indebted by his sheer hard work knitting all this by himself! Unbelievable, how a busy student like him has much time to do such a demanding work. May I say his maiden attempt in knitting has come to a flawless fruition. The neck warmer is made of wool + acrylic yarn knit to perfection and boy, it has fulfilled its task by keeping my exposed neck (as I usually don't zip up my coat) warm. I'd wear it everyday in this crazy weather!

And not to forget merci beaucoup Safwan for listening to my wishes - he got me this cool grey graphic t-shirt from New-Yorker! The shirt's so versatile I can wear it with a lot of outfits, just the perfect addition to the grey palette in my wardrobe.

Also, I hope it's never too late to thank all my readers and other bloggers out there who'd spend their precious time checking this blog and also for the comments and critiques. I'd like to improve the content of the blog and my personal style in the future!

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha

To all Muslims around the globe, Happy Eid.

Right now I'm watching Anastasia the animated movie. Do I smell a following Russian-related post? All I can show you is this screen cap from Anastasia:

Is it drool-worthy enough of an image? Just stay tuned, be right back!

Welcome to Dunia Fashyon!

You must be wondering what's up with the new blog title? Well it's an absolutely funny story to tell. Did you watch Zoolander (a movie in the 2001 )? Yes, the one which has Ben Stiller play a loony male model competing with his close rival (Owen Wilson)?

At the end of the movie when Zoolander was thanked by the 'Prime Minister of Malaysia' for saving his life from the evil Mugatu, Zoolander responded ( In Bahasa Melayu):

Bagi pihak dunia fashyon
Translation: On behalf of world fashyon

Sama-sama, Perdana Menteri.
Translation: You're welcome, Prime Minister. (prime rib of Propecia huwatt??)

HAHAHA. That just cracks me up! The translation was deliberately inaccurate and Ben's accent was sooo funny! Can you imagine, I've seen this movie years ago and I still remember that line? I was so inspired by the tacky misspelling and the peculiar sound the word 'fashyon' makes.

Come and say it loud with me .. FASH-YONNNNN!!

And then altogether with Khalid's incessant nudging I decided to change the blog header. Well, admit it, the previous blog title is not so catchy and too long for some to remember ( yes, I'm loooking at you!) Now I'm contemplating to change the URL to 'Dunia fashyon' as well. What do you think? Will the new address confuse my loyal readers? (heha as if I have many of them =P)

On a not-so-related note: November is full with people's birthdays. In this month alone it's my birthday, my brother's and sister's, my close friends', and not to forget, Ca's. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you guys happy birthday in advance (or a belated one). Have fun in November!

P/S: Happy belated birthday to dearie sis !!!

Last leaves of autumn, January where are you?

A detail shot - look at the textured socks!
Time flies is what they say. I for one do not realise that the season is creeping towards winter - a season I always dread, evidently because the endless cold and gloomy days. Oh I just shiver at the thought of walking in ankle-deep snow which quickly melts into disastrous mud the next day.

But trying to convince myself that this is my last winter, I might muster some positive attitude towards the days ahead. Yes, this is the season where people are generally clad in all black, chunky and hideous knee-length boots or even the overly trendy patent accessories.

I question myself. Must this apply to me? It's easier to say no, but in reality there's no easy exit for style - sometimes I just run out of creative ideas to concoct an interesting head-to-toe outfit, hence the oft-repeated use of the MNG jacket, Sisley sweater, Clarks brown shoes and H&M grey skinnies. Oh I don't even have to write the outfit details for you guys - you probably have memorised all the key items I featured here! (In short I just don't have the 'greatest' resources to combine into a beautiful masterpiece). Hmm, must get another exciting pieces...

Oh how I wish this old city that I call second home has interesting vintage shops as this is the best and cheapest way to whip up a fashionable outfit. All that Volgograd has are shonky overstock outlets which sources are from the filthy sales bin from UK high-street stores. Well, that's where I get most of my junks anyway. Ergo, the occasional trip to the 'real' Europe is highly anticipated for me to purchase more delectably rare items. January please come faster!
