I was a virgin in buying appointments until I followed Monsieur Arman to Paris. I was deflowered gracefully, you might say. The Christopher Kane's showroom in Paris was located not so far from our hotel, in fact, it was just about 2 minutes away.
I was chirpily sauntering to the showroom basically, not expecting what do they have to offer...
Upon arrival I was astounded by the kaleidoscopic colors at the showroom.
Not foreign to 'clever' prints (his gorilla and alligator print t-shirts, and the more recent S/S 11 cosmic prints are to name but a few) it obviously seems like Christopher Kane has taken lava lamp as his latest inspiration for the casual womenswear collection, where a myriad of colours join and become a synergy which result in brilliantly vibrant hues.
He has also taken design to a new level by literally putting that lava lamp influence on t-shirts and bags. Collars are adorned with gooey lava lamp fluid contained in wavy-shaped plastic which in effect, enhances further the vivid prints...
And there were bags with similar design to excite the unconventional taste buds of many I foresee...
And don't despair just yet fellow gentlemen, as Mr Kane has prepared something else for the male counterpart. There is no conventional design philosophy in the realm of Christopher Kane. A somewhat ordinary looking t-shirt is not what it seems to be, when I was actually fooled by the realistic houndstooth and checked patterns on these t-shirts and cardigans when in fact, they are printed on the fabric, as opposed to being knit...
I never intend to sound unpatriotic but it seems like the production team has worked very well on producing highly believable prints like these, which I find lacking in our local design products in terms of quality. Perhaps this issue will require a whole discussion on its own...
