Nike gladiators VS Margiela cut outs

My never-ending shoe talk is perpetuated once again. And I've literally broken my pact of not swooning over 'improper' shoes aka sneakers/tennis shoes again. I simple cannot resist the temptation of harping on these much-hyped about Nike gladiator sandals which have been lingering in the blogosphere for some while now, and apparently I lag behind this news. The other day these sandals caught my attention, and I could not help but bemused by the fact that the summer gladiator hullabaloo will not end, not soon to say the very least. These are a pair for girls, but I bet many guys out there (including moi of course) can't resist the sandal's gender duality of the design. In fact, they are gladiator sandals after all ...

Nike gladiators, 80 Euros at Colette

Anyway, the pair above is a 'polished' version of a prototype for the Remixed and Recut project by Nancy Wu at Nike. Colette sells them in three versions : black (pictured above), white and gold. Personally the final product looks too commercial and safe, design-wise. I like the prototypes better, I especially prefer the one with yellow laces - the colorway is less expected and the blue soles somehow seem fresh to me.

Prototypes by Nancy Wu

And there's these Margiela cut-offs which are of similar concept, and obviously cost substantially more than the Nikes. If I have some extra dough I'd pick this in a heartbeat. The salmon cut-outs are so-so, but the white high-top sneakers seal the deal for me! I'm sold for $645...

the last pair looks nice. the price is pretty 'nice' too.haha.

But the nike logo on those gladiators makes them look too much like a regular nike sneakers with cuts here and there. They're stiil prototypes eh?

owh bummer.i need to study.

the designer of these shoes is one of the dying breeds of 'real' designers of the world today. i like the last pair too, its design is very well thought. that distinguishes a 'designer' shoe from a sports label one.i won't mind paying that sum of money, if i have some extra cash lying around that is.

the above sets of gladiators are the funal product ready to be sold at 80 euors a pop. the below ones are the prototypes, which i prefer more.

Study? you kinda remind me of something that i have to do....

Even though some people really don't like the Nike one's, I honestly love them. I don't think you would ever see them with the average everday outfit, but it's a nice sporty alternative. The Margiela version is more practical. I don't know if I like the tan one's but I'd go with the white.

The Nike would be a good fall back but it is without a doubt the Margiela that will haunt me if I don't end up with them! haha
